Panama offers several residency pathways depending on your situation. The Friendly Nations Visa is popular for citizens of about 50 qualifying countries — it grants permanent residency with a relatively simple process. The Pensionado Visa is designed for retirees receiving a lifetime pension of $1,000/month or more and comes with substantial discounts on services and goods. The Qualified Investor Visa (Golden visa) is available to those investing $300,000+ in Panamanian real estate or financial instruments. The Remote Worker Visa (Short Stay) lets digital nomads live and work in Panama for up to 9 months.
The best pathway depends on your nationality, income sources, and long-term goals. We map out your optimal route during an initial strategy session.
Our service covers the full relocation journey — not just paperwork. That includes a personalized residency strategy and visa selection, legal referrals and document coordination, real estate orientation tours in Panama City and beyond, neighborhood matching based on your lifestyle and budget, school and healthcare introductions, banking setup guidance, and ongoing advisory support after you arrive.
Think of it as having a knowledgeable local friend who handles the complexity so you can focus on building your new life.
Timelines vary depending on the visa type and individual circumstances. For the Friendly Nations Visa, applicants are first granted a provisional residence valid for up to 6 months. During this period, the process continues until the 2-year temporary residency is approved. Clients are typically required to return to Panama to complete this step.
After the 2-year residency, applicants may choose to apply for permanent residency for an additional cost. Once granted, permanent residency does not require renewal.
For the Pensionado Visa, residency is granted upon completion of the process and does not require any future renewals.
We build a personalized timeline based on your target move date, ensuring that each step is completed efficiently and in alignment with your relocation goals.
Not at all. Panama has one of the largest English-speaking expat communities in Latin America, particularly in Panama City neighborhoods like Punta Pacifica, El Cangrejo, and Clayton. Most banks, hospitals, international schools, and service providers in expat areas operate comfortably in English.
That said, learning conversational Spanish enriches daily life significantly — and we'll connect you with resources to get started if you'd like. It's an asset, not a requirement.
